First Day Back

Well, Yesterday was my first day back to school (no kids yet though).  I have this weird habit of waking up the week before school starts at about the time I will be waking up when school starts, in order to get used to waking up early. That means that yesterday, although we didn't have anything scheduled until 10am, I got up at 5:40.  I went to work out, showered, made my lunch, ate breakfast, and got to school around 7:30.  Only one person was there.  No one else showed up until 8 or 8:30.  I stayed there until close to 7:30 pm.  I was tired.

I know you probably don't need me to reiterate this, but, I was tired.  I was so tired (and hungry by 5:30) that when my Man called me at 5:30 to talk about the computers were were trying to get working for the computer lab, I broke down and cried.  I told him I would talk to him later after I ate.  (I curse my body for going crazy when my blood sugar drops.)

After I ate, I was a little better, but when i got home around 7:40ish and tried to work on the three computers I hauled back home, I wasn't in a great state.  I thought I was fine until I couldn't get the monitor to work.  I tried it I don't know how many times and it just didn't work.  I wanted it all done for tomorrow and when I realized I couldn't (how can you work on a computer if you have no visual interface?) I cried again.

I decided at that point that if I was THAT tired (I was crying over a monitor not working when I have a school full of monitors not 2 minutes away), I should probably watch reruns of The Big Bang Theory on TV, then go to sleep.  And that is what I did.

I feel better this morning.

aside:  OH MY GOODNESS I HATE MY CRAZY BODY.  When it decides that I haven't eaten recently enough it goes crazy.  It may get a little dizzy, or make me feel really lethargic, or may make me feel like throwing up.  When it doesn't do that, it makes me incapable of making decisions.  I mean simple decisions.  I mean, we were at an airport and my body was telling me to eat, but it wouldn't let me pick something to eat, oh no.  It was going crazy.  I told Jeremy to get me something to eat and he started asking me UNREASONABLE questions like: What do you want to eat?  Do you want a sandwich?  How about McDonald's?  --UNREASONABLE!  I know it was unreasonable because the minute he started asking me these questions, my body went AAAAAHHHH, my brain seized up, and I started to cry.  Over food.  Over PICKING food.  Jeremy was like "what's wrong"  and I was like "JUST PICK ME SOMETHING TO EAT!"  the poor boy was so confused.  He didn't know what was wrong with me, but he sweetly picked me food.  I was better after I ate.

Anyway.  Yesterday was crazy, and today promises to be crazy as well.  I should try eating small amounts through the day, though, so I don't go crazy at the end of it.  We will see how that goes.

From my crazy life to yours: have a great day!

Politics

Today I am going to do what it seems like everyone and their mother are doing on Facebook, and I am going to go on a political rant.  It just seems like the "in" thing to do.  Like starting a blog.

Wow, for once I am in the "in" crowd.

I hate politics.  I hate them. I hate, Hate, HATE them!  Why?  You may ask?  Why Jessie?  You are so sweet and mild all the time (heh), why would you get so vehement over politics?

Well I will tell you why... (you asked for it)

Politics make people dumb.

The smartest, most reasonable people I know become a bunch of crazy lemmings when it comes to politics.  (That is metaphorical lemmings, as I have recently learned that real lemmings do not follow one another off cliffs...apparently I am gullible, but not a lemming).

Politics divide people.  Absolutely.  If they aren't posts from the RIGHT saying that the Left wants to take everything you earn to pay for women to become super promiscuous (like they wouldn't have sex anyway if they really wanted to, and, Oh, if they didn't want to have sex before, they just have to now because birth control is free), then they are posts from the LEFT saying the Right is starting a war on women (as if the Right is made of only men, or that women couldn't possibly believe that abortion is wrong).

Politics divide.  They make people stupid.  They make people lemmings.

We know that people aren't one-dimensional.  Yet, during election time, suddenly EVERYONE becomes one-dimensional.  This person must believe THIS because they said THIS OTHER THING.  And two plus two always equals 4 (unless you are trying to add 2 and -2, or 2 apples and 2 termites).

Politics divide, and they make people stupid.  OH MY GOODNESS FACEBOOK IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!  I don't want you to tell me that I must not respect myself as a woman if I don't vote this way or that way.  I am just there to see what is up with you.  I want to know about your kids, your friends, your dog.  I don't want you to preach to me and tell me what I should believe or who I should side with.  I don't need that.  Believe it or not, I am capable of making my own choices without knowing what all the other lemmings are doing.

As I write this, I know I am being harsh.  I know that I might offend, and I don't mean to hurt.  I don't want to make people angry.  I contemplated not writing this at all.  Then, when I got this far, I thought about deleting it all.  Then I remembered.

This is my blog.

This is MY blog.

so there.

My first

Well, this is my first blog.  I am not quite sure how I feel about this.  I love reading other people's blogs, but I really don't think I have much to say.  Once the school year starts, I will probably post stuff about school, and the crazy things kids say. There are probably thousands of blogs like that.  I don't intend for this blog to get super personal.  I was raised with the idea that family stuff is family stuff.  It was taboo to talk about "family stuff" to anyone that wasn't family.  I am not quite as conservative as that, but I don't think I want a whole lot of my personal "stuff" floating around in the ether for anyone to happen along.  I might get a little personal though, because that is just me.  I don't have tons of friends, but I get close to the ones I have.  I am a personal person. :)

School starts two weeks from today.  Next Monday is reporting day.  Time to clean up the classroom, begin to plan in earnest, and start fighting other teachers for use of the copy machine and laminator.  Next Thursday is the Back To School BBQ, and everything needs to be ready by then.  Kids will come in and pick their desks.  They will sort school supplies, and they will chat.  They will be so excited for this coming year, but it is not just them.  The parents will come, full of questions, hopes for their children, worries, and, yes, excitement.  And I will be there too.  A queen in my domain.  Smiling, full of questions, hopes, worries, and, yes, excitement.  I am excited.  And scared, and soo soo soo excited.  I love school.  I have ALWAYS loved school.  It is fitting, then, that I am a teacher.  I love school.  I love the questions.  I love the worries.  I love never knowing what will happen next.  Each day, each subject, each hour, each minute is a mystery as a teacher.  You never know.  You never know what will spark someone's imagination.  What will set off a domino train of question in a child's mind.  You never know where a lesson will lead you.  One day is nothing like another.  I am so excited.

And scared.  Just a little.  Just enough.  Just enough to remember that I don't know everything, and that I am not perfect, and that with all my training and experience and expertise, there is still so much I don't know.  I don't know.  And that is ok, because life is not about knowing all the answers.  Life is about knowing where to find them.

And so I am excited.  And scared.  Just a little.  Just enough.
